AQUARIUM PLACE
Aquarium Place is The Chiofaro Company’s vision for a redevelopment of the site of the Harbor Garage, which is located between the harbor’s edge and the new Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway, adjacent to the New England Aquarium. The mixed-use project, designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox, will transform an eyesore into an icon, vastly improve access to the Harbor, and help activate the Greenway. It will humanize the pedestrian experience and provide much needed neighborhood retail and amenities.
Uses envisioned include a retail podium, a tower consisting of a five star hotel with luxury residential space, a second tower with 750,000 SF of first class office space and underground parking for 1400 cars. In addition to the development of the site itself The Chiofaro Company has offered to invest $50 million in neighborhood and public realm improvements to upgrade and better integrate the sizeable surrounding open space of the area. The complex and local public realm space will serve as a destination point and gathering place, linking the Financial District, the North End and the Waterfront.
The Chiofaro Company filed a letter of intent with the city on January 7, 2009 and has been meeting with community members and elected officials and other interested parties since that time. The company filed its Project Notification Form (PNF) on April 16, 2009. The design is still conceptual and The Chiofaro Company remains respectful of the community and government processes.
